Profit vs revenue

how to double the profit?
increase 20% of the revenue is ok.
listen to the story of masterCard....
MasterCard Inc., the second-biggest payment-card network, said profit almost doubled as customers' use of credit and debit cards increased.
Earnings excluding one-time items rose to $195 million, or $1.43 a share, from $101 million, or 74 cents, a year earlier, the Purchase, New York-based company said today in a statement.
The average estimate of 15 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was for $1.31 a share.
The major issue is how to promote the usage of card instead of cash and check.
The value of MasterCard transactions increased 13 percent taking into account currency conversions as consumers continued to switch to credit and debit cards from cash and checks.
The company, led by Chief Executive Officer Robert Selander, increased spending on personnel and to defend against lawsuits even as marketing and advertising costs declined.
They definitely exceeded our expectations, said Tien- tsin Huang, an analyst at JPMorgan Securities Inc. in New York.
MasterCard's revenue rose 18 percent to $997 million, while operating expenses climbed 3.2 percent to $725 million.
General and administrative costs increased 18 percent to $432 million.
Advertising and marketing expenses fell 13 percent, to $268 million, with the end of MasterCard's World Cup soccer sponsorship.
Shares of MasterCard have more than quadrupled since first being offered at $39 a year ago.
The stock might take a breather because the magnitude of the beat was not as great as in past quarters..
increase income..reduce expense ..then you can double your profit.

Wireless provider Sprint Nextel Corp. said it would include a range of Google Inc.'s Web and communications applications on its coming "WiMax" mobile devices, a boost for Sprint as it rolls out the new technology and a breakthrough for Google in the U.S. wireless industry.
now is wireless ..
Sprint, the nation's third-largest wireless carrier by subscribers, recently announced it is teaming up with Clearwire Corp., of Kirkland, Wash., to build a nationwide WiMax network.
The companies plan a rollout that will reach 100 million people by the end of 2008.
WiMax is a long-range wireless technology that Sprint says will allow consumers to access the Web wirelessly from cellphones, laptops and other devices at speeds and prices similar to cable connections.
some years ago was blue tooth..now WiMax ...
Sprint plans to offer a home page on its WiMax devices that will serve as a gateway for consumers to access the Internet and a variety of multimedia services.
Under the deal, Google will provide the Web-search capabilities for that portal. Sprint also will integrate a suite of popular Google mobile applications, including Gmail email and Google Calendar.
Barry West, who heads up Sprint's WiMax unit, said it isn't clear whether Google's services will be offered on the WiMax products Clearwire brings to market. Clearwire declined to comment.
Google's collaboration with Sprint comes as Google is battling in Washington to impose new rules for a coming auction of valuable radio spectrum.
Google wants to require wireless operators to open their networks to new applications and devices.
Now is Wireless age ..

DIY Cancer test

Hope you dont have cancer, but do a DIY test may help you.
Widespread use of a simple DIY test kit for bowel cancer could save thousands of lives a year.
The kit is being sent to men and women in their 60s throughout the UK as part of a national screening programme.
Cancer Research UK has calculated there would be up to 20,000 fewer deaths over the next 20 years if 60% of those who receive the test make use of it.
Yes, just a DIY test, may save great money.
If 80% used it, another 5,000 lives could be saved over 20 years, figures from a pilot scheme suggest.

There are about 35,000 cases of bowel cancer diagnosed each year in the UK, and more than 16,000 people die from the disease.
Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK.
If you know how to do this DIY test, it may save your life.
The testing kit - the Faecal Occult Blood Test - is designed to allow people to take faecal samples in the privacy of their own home and send them for testing.

Microsoft in ads deal with Digg.com

Do you like Microsoft?
Microsoft and news sharing site Digg have signed a three-year deal that will see the software giant manage advertising on Digg.com.
Have you even used digg.com?
The text-based Google advertising that currently appears on Digg is due to be replaced in the coming weeks.
Digg says it gets over 17 million unique monthly visitors.
How come thre are so many visitors?
In other news, Microsoft has also announced that its games advertising division Massive Inc has secured the contract for the display of adverts on some of the top games from publisher EA.
Any way, Microsoft and Google are facing each other directly.
The five games - mostly popular US sports titles - are Madden NFL 08, Nascar 08, NHL 08, skateboarding game Skate, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.
At the time Microsoft bought Massive last year, the Wall Street Journal reported the deal was worth between $200m to $400m.
No financial details of the EA deal have been released.

The operators of MySpace have identified and removed more than 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the hugely popular website, according to the US authorities.
but, any one knows how much are still in MySpace?
The figure is more than four times higher than that announced by the social networking site earlier this year.
It has been obtained by the authorities in North Carolina, which demanded that MySpace provide data on how many registered sex offenders were using the site, as well as information about where they live.

NBA has to do much more

NBA is such a big business .
Call it cynicism. Call it pessimism. Call it sensationalism. No matter what you call it?
But anyone who thinks ex-NBA ref Tim Donaghy -- who allegedly bet on basketball games -- is the league's first official to gamble is crazy.
It is real crazy.
Anyone who thinks he is the first to bet on sports -- or on NBA games, for that matter -- is naive.
Commissioner David Stern appeared shaken and as emotional as you're ever going to see him during Tuesday's news conference in New York concerning the federal investigation involving Donaghy, a gambling ring and organized crime.
But his much-awaited response, however sympathetic, missed the mark as he failed to take any responsibility.
Stern pointed to the league's rigorous system of checking up on its officials, even comparing it to the CIA and FBI, and labeled Donaghy, who resigned July 9, a "rogue ... criminal."

It is a big business ..
The truth is the NBA had enough red flags to eject an entire soccer team.
Donaghy's history of volatility and his alleged involvement in gambling in 2005 were enough to put the microscope on him. What's more, the integrity and ability of today's officials and the NBA's officiating system has been repeatedly questioned -- by coaches such as Phil Jackson, by owners such as Mark Cuban, by former officials such as Joey Crawford and by plenty of players.
Stern was right about one thing: If an official is intent on breaking the rules, he can.
But here are a few ways the league can catch them more quickly, or at least force them to have to work a little harder:
More accountability: As it stands now, officials aren't available to the media, so they don't have to answer for their on-court decisions publicly.
What's more, players and coaches are fined for commenting negatively about officials.
The lack of accountability is magnified because NBA officials have what is considered the toughest job in sports because of the amount of judgment calls they have to make and the impact of their decisions. Yet, they are shielded from public scrutiny, and even their reprimands are done privately.
Well, it's time to put them on the spot.
Let them answer for their questionable calls.
Let's make it public knowledge who is grading out poorly, when someone is chastised and when the league's evaluation shows the wrong call was made in a pivotal situation.
